Position Summary
The Clinical Director serves as the organization's clinical expert in hospice and palliative care, providing leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to the interdisciplinary team. This position focuses on clinical excellence, quality outcomes, staff development, and building strong relationships with physicians and healthcare partners.
This is a primarily leadership and administrative position with no routine patient caseload. The Clinical Director serves as a clinical resource and mentor for staff while working closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and clinical leadership team to support exceptional, patient-centered care.

Essential Duties & Resonsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Staff Support
Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, coaching, and guidance to nurses and the interdisciplinary team.
Serve as a resource for complex clinical situations, symptom management, hospice eligibility, and goals-of-care discussions.
Support staff in delivering consistent, compassionate, high-quality patient care.
Provide high-level clinical management and conduct annual employee evaluations.
Mentor new clinicians and emerging clinical leaders.
Provide clinical consultation and occasional direct patient support when needed.
Physician & Community Collaboration
Collaborate with the Medical Director, attending physicians, specialists, and community healthcare providers.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with St. Luke's Health System and other referral partners.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and support coordination of patient-centered care.
Serve as a clinical representative of the organization with healthcare and community partners.
Education & Professional Development
Develop and deliver orientation, ongoing education, and competency training for clinical staff.
Support continuing education and professional development opportunities.
Identify training needs and help strengthen clinical knowledge and competency across the interdisciplinary team.
Recruitment & Team Development
Lead recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, development, and retention of clinical staff.
Support staff engagement, professional growth, and effective team collaboration.
Provide mentorship and guidance to emerging clinical leaders.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
Support quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, clinical audits, and regulatory compliance.
Assist with the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Monitor clinical practices and outcomes to support continuous improvement and excellence in care.
Maintain knowledge of hospice regulations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and applicable clinical standards.
Organizational Leadership
Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team on clinical strategy, growth, and organizational initiatives.
Support the organization's mission, values, and philosophy of hospice and palliative care.
Participate in a limited clinical on-call rotation.
Perform additional clinical leadership duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Idaho.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of hospice and/or palliative care experience, including progressive leadership responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of hospice regulations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and interdisciplinary care.
Demonstrated expertise in symptom management, end-of-life care, and clinical mentoring.
Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, healthcare providers, staff, patients, and families.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN), or willingness to obtain certification within the first year of employment.
Experience in clinical education, quality improvement, or staff development.
Experience collaborating with physicians, hospitals, and community healthcare partners.
Leadership experience within hospice or palliative care.
Experience developing clinical programs, policies, or quality improvement initiatives.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with occasional patient and staff support, including intermittent co-visits.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout office and clinical environments.
Ability to operate standard office and clinical equipment.
Ability to provide occasional direct patient support when clinically appropriate.

This position is primarily administrative and leadership focused. The Clinical Director does not maintain a routine patient caseload but remains available for clinical consultation, staff mentoring, intermittent co-visits for patient and staff support, interdisciplinary meetings, staff education, and collaboration with the Executive Director and Medical Director.
The position participates in the clinical on-call rotation, typically one evening per week and one weekend per month, with flexibility to assist with additional on-call coverage when staffing needs require.
